The Valley of the Spirits
The entire Valley of the Spirits is a taboo area, most likely due to the garuda who the ancients imprisoned there many centuries ago. Shortly after the Eruption of Fire Mountain at the end of the Year of the Fleeing Ebarr, it was discovered that one of the great trees which bordered the valley had toppled and created a bridge which allowed several hundred of differing types of garuda to leave their valley. The tree was removed by group of heroes as depicted in Into the Valley of the Spirits. The region is undoubtedly dangerous, but many more mysteries still surround the region.
As further explained in Death from the Mists the lacerials arrived here some time earlier due to a magical accident when trying to escape enslavement by and evil god. While in the valley, an evil lacerial called Blackflame woke an even more ancient evil from death within the ruins of the valley. The exact nature of this unliving creature is a mystery, but it known to be very old, powerful, evil, and dangerous.
With BLackflame’s death, the lacerial Whiteheart vainly tried to keep the creature at bay while the lacerials escaped to Malatra.
